Upcykling

I was brought up with  reusing anything and everything that could be reused and we siblings were encouraged to be creative. We cut and pasted from magasines and wallpaper books and made paper dolls from cornflake boxes. Buttons were cut off cardigans and blouses, that no longer could be used and soft toys or  dolls’ clothes were made from the left overs We often heard the words “waste not want not”. Recykling was a question of economy then, whereas today it is just as much a question of “saving the planet” As an adult I choose to recyckle and upcykle as much as possible. I scour flea markets and charity shops for old textiles , embroideries and embellishments.

The medals below are made from scraps of old fabric and broken jewellry. They are fun to make and fun to wear.
