Fabric books

I enjoy working with the book format and if I can combine this with my love of fabrics, old and new, then it is extra fun. I use calico, stout og old sheets or tablecloths for the base fabric. I start by finding all my bits and bobs and left over pieces of embroidery, ribbon etc and fill a basket with this eclectic collection. Finding stuff to use, is fun, but making small compostions of the pieces is a joy. It pleases me to see all the tiny off cuts come to life with some old buttons and bits of ribbon etc. Sometimes I choose to sew by hand , sometimes by machine. The piece usually makes the decision for me.

It is never a shame to cut up and reuse old stained table cloths, torn cushion covers or the cuffs of a shirt that is otherwise worn out. I wouldn’t though, cut up valuable or really antique pieces. I upcycle fabric that was otherwise doomed for the skip.
