Charcoal drawings

I usually work on reasonably small pieces of fabric or paper, but once in a while it is liberating to go big. Big for me being A2.

These drawings are done in charcoal – the perfect medium for working on large pieces of paper. For the pansy I blocked out most of the paper with a big chunky stick of charcoal and then “drew” into this with an eraser. Lightening some areas and then darkening others, to create the desired effect. The quince was drawn in charcoal in the traditional manner. Both drawings were given a layer of  fixative, when finished.
