Stitch – postcards

I have, at present, quite a lot of work waiting to be mounted and framed. This is, admittedly, not my favourite task, but today I decided to get some of this done.

These Scottish themed “postcards” were first in the queue. All are approximately 10X15 cm. and made using the sewing machine. To make sure of the necessary likeness i referred to some old book illustrations. I collect old books about flowers, birds, insects and animals etc. when I find them second hand.

I stitched the figures, using free machine embroidery on stout, including some yarn for the sheep and some tull for the salmon. I chose background fabrics in suitable colours and patterns and after cutting out the creatures these were sewn onto the background , continuing the stitching and covering the edges so they fell into place.
